DAY 3: ATHENS DIY DAY / OPTIONAL DAY TRIP TO DELPHI:

Today, get ready to take an insight into ancient Greek culture & history as you set out for your day trip to 4th Century Old Town, Delphi. By evening, return back to Athens and call it off a day.

SUGGESTIONS:

Exarhia is a vibrant neighborhood near Nubian Hostel, rich in local character and with a strong multicultural vibe. A bustling barrio, alive with artmusichistory, and culture, it is home to students, artists, old-school Athenians and a growing international community, showcasing the true colors of life in Athens.

-You may choose to hike up to Lycabettus Hill to have a beautiful, 360-view of Athens. It’s an easy hike with a cafe on the top where you’ll also find delicious food, ranging from traditional Greek, Cretan and Mediterranean, to pizza, tapas, sushi and falafel, plus restaurants catering to vegan and gluten-free diets – and of course lots of bakeries and snack bars, all coming together in a burst of flavours and aromas.

-Love Street Art? Wander over to neighboring Monastiraki and Psirri to check it out. For the most brilliant stuff though, head to scruffy Exarcheia, the traditional stronghold of Greek anarchists.

-Your hostel also organizes activities like walking tours, pub crawls, etc on a daily basis. You may contact the hostel’s reception to get real-time details on the activities.

-Try some authentic pastries like Tiropita (cheese and egg) and spanakopita (spinach, feta, and onions). Another one is koulouri, a circular bread coated with sesame seeds and eaten fresh out of the oven, and Bougatsa, another filo pastry filled with minced meat, semolina custard or cheese.

-If you wish to try some Greek street food, the best place to try it is at Karamanlidika in the spice market area. And while any dish at this atmospheric Greek deli will get those taste buds dancing, definitely try the fried Caramanli— it’s eggy and tomato-y, and a delightfully Hellenic take on Israeli shakshuka. (Google Map Location: https://g.page/Karamanlidika-Sokratous?share )

If you’re a vegetarian, you may head to Lime Bistro. (Google Map Location: https://g.page/limebistro23?share )
