Hi Backpackers,

As many of you are new to the world of travelling and backpacking it becomes mandatory to understand the rules & regulation of staying in the hostels. It is not like staying in a hotel and we request you not to expect services. Hostels are fun, inexpensive, and social. You get an opportunity to interact & meet like-minded travellers from all over the world and your travel experience turns out to be super fun 🙂

Most often, when people check in to a hostel, they expect hotel standards included, so we decided to acquaint you with the standard rules of living in the hostel, so to say, for beginners.

Do remember you’re sharing space with other travellers from all across the world. Hostel tries to provide a nice, clean, low-budget accommodation in a friendly, international and tolerant environment. In this trip, you will stay in a dorm room with another mix of men and women backpackers from all across the globe. To make the hostel a great place for all travellers we would like to ask you to follow few simple guidelines:

#Rule 1: Check In Check Out Time:  One needs to strictly adhere to the check in & check out the policy of the hostel. In case you land up early than the check-in time, you may have to wait for a while. Utilize that time exploring or just simply sitting and chilling with a cup of coffee. Don’t crib, it’s a bad vibe. It differs from hostel to hostel. Usually, the standard time for check-in is 02 pm and check out is 12 pm.

#Rule 2: Alcohol & Food: The consumption of alcoholic drinks and hot food inside the rooms and hallways is strictly prohibited. So don’t even try doing this.

#Rule 3: Smoking: Please don’t smoke in the hostel, including rooms, corridors, stairs, bathrooms and lifts.

#Rule 4: In Door Cooking:  Please don’t cook in the rooms or in the bathrooms – no gas cookers, no boilers – hostel will remove and return them on check-out. We know it’s a budget trip & you are on a low budget but ensure it’s not at the cost of inconvenience to the hostel or the hostel mates.

#Rule 5: Be kind to service staff:  The service staff have to deal with unattractive and various things the whole day, so that to make their lives easier – wash your dishes, do not leave a bunch of hair in the shower, don’t keep a wet towel on the bed etc.

#Rule 6: Be Sensible: Please don’t lean out of the windows, throw things out of the window or store stuff on the window.

#Rule 7: Personal Belonging Safety: Please lock your stuff and don’t leave valuables unsecured in the room or in the reception area. Hostels have locker facility which can be availed. Kindly make use of that. Use a lock for to secure your baggage. Hostel or Tripver does not take any responsibility for the loss of your items.

#Rule 8: Respect others: Hostels works on fundamentals of mutual respect. Please be quiet during the night. Even if you want to party, your roommates or other travellers and our neighbours might want to sleep.

#Rule 9: Volume Down: Do you think you are doing a favour to your roommates in a hostel when listening to the music with earphones? It’s true – you’re doing a huge favour for them. People can be bothered even by the echoes of some motives that resembles a simple noise. Use of bluetooth speaker is STRICTLY prohibited in any area. Use headphones instead.

#Rule 10: Drugs:  Please don’t take drugs and especially not in the hostel. Hostel reserve the right not to serve drugged or drunk people and to ask them to leave the hostel. In such cases, payments will not be refunded and your trip will be discontinued immediately. You can even get blacklisted from Tripver Community from travelling in future.

#Rule 11: Quick Tip: Prepare your suitcase for the check-out from the evening. By switching the light on and off at 5 am, looking for a passport or a toothbrush, packing repeatedly the bag or backpack at such an early time will really piss people off. Therefore, save your nerves and nerves of your future neighbours – prepare your stuff in the evening.

#Rule 12: Use Dustbin: Please respect your neighbours and the environment – waste belongs in the appropriate waste bins. Hostels usually separate waste: plastic, paper, glass, and the rest. Please ask if you are unsure.

#Rule 13: Making New Friends. Great!  Just keep them off the hostel domain: Please don’t allow friends, which are not staying in the hostel to access the hostels especially not the rooms. Hostels are only for paid hostels guests.

#Rule 14: Don’t Expect Hotel Services:  In case you need something don’t expect a telecom near your hostel bed to order the receptionist. You will have to go down to the reception and ask for what you require politely as per the timings of the reception.

#Rule 15: Take off Shoes: Mostly, in the hostels, you will be kindly requested to take off the shoes at the entrance. To avoid a bad mood, just bring super lightweight slippers with you, as you may need them also in the shower.

#Rule 16: The bounds of decency: Never walk in your underwear in the hostel even if you get friendly with the hostel mates or in the shared room. Not everyone is particularly interested what kind of undi brand you prefer. To prevent it, the hostel has showers or toilets, where there is space to change.

#Rule 17: Tidy up after yourself: Please keep your room and the bathrooms tidy –  please clean up after using it. Your fellow travellers will be very thankful. Leaving your shoes in the corridor of the hostel, where the people are passing by, is stupid. Leaving around you a pile of leftovers, dirty socks and things is rude. Therefore, we are asking to clean up.

#Rule 18: It’s NOT cool to mock or abuse: Keep in mind that you’re on a community trip. Misbehaving with fellow travelers, fighting or having an altercation in the hostel or any other public place else hostels don’t really hesitate calling the cops or simply kicking you out or other serious consequences such as immediate discontinuation of your trip. So keep it cool & sober. In case you get in trouble with cops/or fellow traveller for any reason, Tripver Community or any other fellow travellers is not liable for your personal actions & its consequences.

#Rule 19: Couple in the hostels:  We treat all couples in the trip as individual reservations like you would expect in a community backpacking trip. Therefore keep your expectations realistic.

#Rule 20: Tripver Forex Card & Chief : Depending on the trip type that you have reserved with Tripver, during your trip everyday a traveller will be appointment as the Chief via common consensus of other travellers & the backend team.  As per the community rule, the Chief is our one point contact with the backend team & is responsible for buying/dispatching local public transportation tickets & distributing the meal expenses as per the Tripver Forex Card. However in case you are occupied hopping around and enjoying your trip, do ensure either you buy the ticket/meal yourself & get the amount reimbursed later from the Chief before the trip ends. It’s very critical to keep the Chief in the loop while you do so.

How about few tips for survive in a hostel?

Survival Tip # 1 – Always wear flip flops/ slipper in the shower. Usually, hostel asks you to take the shoes off at the entrance.

Survival Tip # 2 – Be in time for a hot shower. If the hostel is overloaded, be prepared that you will not manage to take a hot shower. Therefore, do not be lazy and get up an hour before, then you will be able to catch the hot water.

Survival Tip # 3 – Always schedule your time. Not to miss your flight or tour, have a spare couple of hours. Get out of the Indian “Paanch (five) Minute” mindset. It will be a big setback for you anywhere outside India. You will land up missing your bus, train, flights, city tours and will give you a bad reputation.  Try to be 05 minutes before the given time.

Survival Tip #4 – Be social. This is the most important tip. Your trip will be much better if you talk to people. Not necessary to the ones in your group but within the hostel. You’ll get suggestions on where to go, how to get there and you can even get invited to some events that you never heard about. Safety First though.

Here are reasons why Hostels are the Best !

Hostels are the best places to stay if you are coming with an open & travelling mindset. Hostels are great places to meet other travelers & are far more social than hotels. The common area serves as a catalyst for meeting other travelers and getting good recommendations for where to eat and places to visit. Hostels attract a “different” type of crowd, often a demographic interested in meeting new people.

The Basic Services Prevail: Like hotels, all good hostels offer advice. Many hostels offer laundry services, food, screened movies, and other services that make travelers happy.

Hostels Focus on Traveler’s : Unlike chain hotels with headquarters based far away, possibly even overseas, hostels are more in tune with the local neighborhood. Many of the hostels were started by travelers who wanted to settle down and build a business without losing touch with the travel world. These experienced business owners know what it’s like to be far away from home and are better able to meet the needs of fellow travelers. So they are more empathetic & genuine towards the travellers and know that backpackers are usually tight on budgets. The city tax paid by the traveller at check in is also super low at hostel as compared to hotels. Therefore the standards of the hostels are build around the traveller world mindset making it the most awesome place to stay for backpackers !

In case you are facing any inconvenience (like loud noise, smoking in the dorm room, etc) due to a hostel-mate, you may raise a direct complaint at the hostel’s reception desk.

When you are travelling overseas please remember you are not looked by the others local of the region as an individual, but are perceived and judged by the nationality that you belong to. Ensure that you carry your self responsibility & respectfully for all the right reasons.
